Tory and Lois’s luxury dream wedding came to fruition in the dazzling mountain town of Whistler, nestled in rugged British
Columbia, mere hours from bustling downtown Vancouver. The couple were first introduced to one another at a family party, and Tory remembers his bride as being strikingly stylish and “chill”,
but with a strong personality. Now, we all know a stylish girl deserves a stylish proposal, and Tory certainly did not disappoint.

Much to Lois’s surprise, her betrothal was made official on the edge of a cliff with a beauteous evening view of the ocean,
illuminated by nature’s most luminescent lantern, the full moon.

It was only fitting that the couple stay true to this theme and their
love of the natural world by selecting one of the most stunning locations in British Columbia to tie the knot.

Lois and Tory say they chose Whistler, specifically, because of its dreamy qualities. The scenic mountains are, indeed, otherworldly, and, when blanketed in fresh powder snow, the
landscape becomes magical. All the natural elements are present, even when en route. The journey through Squamish
along the Sea To Sky Highway provides a delicious taste of British Columbia’s natural allure at its finest. Once atop the
mountain, Whistler’s Four Seasons is flanked by towering evergreens and wildlife. At any given moment, one might glimpse a black bear frolicking in a thicket of trees, or see a bald eagle soar overhead, kettling on the wind.

Truly, this was the perfect
setting for an occasion as fine as theirs.
Of course, a wedding that boasts such extravagance is almost certain to cause an equal amount of stress for any couple trying to plan it. Tory and Lois wisely sought the expertise of wedding
planner extraordinaire Lucy from Key Events and Weddings.

This coordinator’s seemingly super-human talents included image consulting, wedding planning, wedding design, and on- site supervision. Key Events and Weddings’ second videography team even helped create a “thank you” video for the bride and groom’s parents.

Lois is absolutely candid when discussing the stressful process that is planning a wedding, and she stresses that everyone
involved must be patient. (That’s patient with a capital ‘P’ and sixty-three ‘T’s’, by the way!) However, the tension experienced is never in vain, because “the juice is worth the squeeze”, she says.

They note that even something as simple as enlisting the help of friends or family can alleviate some of the weight. And, of course, the power of whiskey is never to be underestimated!

Another crucial resource the couple utilized was the Cultural Wedding Planner. Tory and Lois dreamed of a wedding as
unique as their cliff-side proposal, and The Cultural Wedding Planner enabled them to fuse Western and Chinese culture.

It was important to them that their wedding should stand apart

from more typical celebrations. They say they found it rather difficult, at times, to honour traditions that were expected while
remaining true to their vision. At the end of the day, though, Lois says a couple must “choose the theme wisely and with
passion, and stick with it”. It is important not to deviate from what is imagined, because a couple’s dream wedding is reflective of their personalities, and personalities must always shine on
such conspicuous occasions. Thanks to Cultural Weddings, the couple’s personalities not only shone, but were positively vibrant!

Guests at Lois and Tory’s wedding were treated to a one-of-a- kind experience in several ways. For her wedding, Lois donned a custom Vera Wang gown from New York, a city considered one of the top destinations for any fashionista. To top it all off, Lois’s gown was the first piece from its collection to ever be worn in Vancouver! The ceremony took place outdoors beneath a silver and peachy-cream canopy, so that Whistler’s scenery could provide a natural backdrop for the wedding’s beauty. The
dinner reception was held in the Chateau Whistler’s ballroom, accented with gold champagne and orange colours. Those
sharing in the bride and groom’s special day received framed pictures as keepsakes, and took home bottles of crisp ice wine, a classy Canadian favourite.

Though countless memories might
vie for the title of “most vividly envisioned”, Lois says the winning
recollection is the moment she walked down the aisle toward Tory and saw him weep with happiness.

Now that they are married, Tory and Lois are most excited about beginning their new life together in San Francisco. The couple decided on relocating there before the ceremony took place, and are looking forward to adjusting to a different pace of lifestyle.

To acclimatize themselves to all this change, Lois knows that the couple must remember to communicate with one another.

She says it is crucial to “always talk to each other, no matter what”. The abilities to exercise empathy, as well as put oneself in another’s shoes, are central to making things work. To sum it

up succinctly, a successful marriage is built upon a foundation of love. Ensure that you not only express this love at all times, but make certain the person receiving this love understands how deeply you mean it.
